Volunteers Change Lives

Volunteers make up 90% of the workforce at the Upper Room Mission. We are always looking for people from all walks of life who want a rewarding experience helping others.

All volunteers must fill out an application form and police clearance check, then go thorough a Volunteer Orientation. Application forms may be downloaded here:

We’re happy with whatever time commitment you’re ready to make! Some volunteers work five days a week, others an hour every two weeks; we have a spot for everyone!

Areas to consider are the Kitchen, Thrift Store, Pick Up Driver, Downstairs Sorting, Chapel Speaker, Repair Technician.

Kitchen

Duties: A little bit of everything, from chopping veggies, washing dishes, sorting doughnuts, making coffee to handing out a warm plate of food with a smile!



Shifts: Mon - Fri 9:00-1:00 pm, or, 1:00-5:00 pm

Store

Duties: Store duties require a serving heart, a great welcoming smile, and a warm hello. You need a basic knowledge of using a cash register and the ability to tidy, straighten, and put away clothing items in the proper areas. Accepting donations of clothing, household goods, and serving customers in the best way to meet their needs is all part of the job description!



Shifts: Monday to Friday morning shift runs from 9:30am – 1pm (includes lunch)
          Monday to Friday afternoon shift runs from 1pm – 4pm
          Saturday shift runs from 10am – 3pm

PickUp / Garbage Dump Drivers

Duties: On a number of occasions, we’ll receive calls from individuals or groups, who’d like us to donate to the Mission, but do not have the means to bring the items down on their own. We need you to help us out with these pick ups in our URM Van! From time to time as well, we need to send some of our larger unusable donations items, (ie. Couches, fridges) sent to the dump.



Shifts: 7 days a week as needed.



Receiving / Downstairs Sorting

Duties: Receiving is the general term for managing all the donations of clothing and household items that are received daily. There are work opportunities to receive and sort incoming goods, iron, sew, and split cloth into rags.

Shifts: Mon - Fri 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Chapel Worship Leader

Duties: Chapel is a time for our guests to have peace from the world and hear the good news of Jesus Christ. Chapel leaders may present the message through song, speaking, video, dance or any other form of worship.

Shifts: Mon - Fri 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM (30 minutes)

Technician

Duties: Clean up, test and make minor repairs to electrical items that come in as donations. Make minor repairs to the facility as directed by the manager and staff.

Shifts: Mon - Fri 8:00am - 4:00pm
